Smart Locks for Offices & Businesses: A UK Guide

The short answer: give every member of staff, cleaner and visitor their own card, fingerprint or code, limited to the hours they need. When someone leaves, delete their access in the app in seconds. You don't collect keys or change locks. Add a Wi-Fi gateway to manage every door from anywhere.

This guide covers which lock fits which door, how access works day to day, and what to check before you fit one.

Business owners using smart lock access in an office

Why businesses switch from keys

  • Leavers lose access straight away. Delete their card, code or fingerprint. You don't need to chase keys or change the lock.
  • Cleaners and contractors only when you want them. Give the cleaner a code that only works on weekday evenings, or give a contractor a code for one day.
  • Visitors without a spare key. Send a one-time code to a delivery driver or a visiting colleague.
  • A record of who opened which door. The unlock history shows which person, card or code was used, and when.

How access works day to day

  1. New starter. Add their fingerprint or issue a card, or send an eKey to their phone in the TTLock app.
  2. Cleaners and regular contractors. Create a recurring code that only works on set days and hours, such as weekdays from 6pm to 8pm.
  3. Visitors and one-off jobs. Send a one-time or time-limited code. It stops working on its own.
  4. Opening hours. On locks with normally-open mode (TA-DL19 and TA-GL07), the door can stay unlocked while you're open and lock again when you switch it off.
  5. Leaver. Delete their card, fingerprint, code and eKey. Their access stops straight away.

Do you need the Gateway G2? For most businesses, yes. With the TTLock Gateway G2 plugged in near the door, you can remove a leaver's access, unlock for a visitor and see the history live, from anywhere. Without it, those changes need you to be at the door by Bluetooth.

Several sites or a shared workspace? Use dryn

The TTLock app works door by door. Across several sites, or a building where people come and go, keeping track of who can open which door gets hard.

Manage your locks with dryn instead. Give each guest, tenant or contractor their own access for exactly the dates they need, and it switches off automatically when their time is up. Add or remove someone once, and every lock across your properties follows.

All locks on this page are dryn-ready. Join dryn early access

Before you fit a smart lock: checklist

  • Fire exits must always open from the inside without a key, card or code. If you're unsure what your building needs, check with your fire risk assessor or building manager.
  • Check your business insurance for any required lock standard on external doors.
  • If you rent your premises, get the landlord's permission before changing a lock.
  • Set up two administrators, for example the owner and the office manager, so access never depends on one phone.
  • Keep a simple register of which card belongs to whom, so you know exactly what to delete when someone leaves.
  • Keep the backup key somewhere safe, and check the battery level in the app regularly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I limit staff or cleaners to working hours?

Yes. In the TTLock app you can create recurring codes for set days and times, and give cards or eKeys a start and end date.

How do I remove access when someone leaves?

Delete their fingerprint, card, code and eKey in the app. Do this at the door by Bluetooth, or from anywhere with the Gateway G2.

Can it stay unlocked during opening hours?

Yes, on locks with normally-open mode, such as the TA-DL19 and TA-GL07. Switch it off at closing time and the door locks as normal.

Do glass door locks need drilling?

No. The TA-GL05 and TA-GL07 clamp onto frameless glass doors. Check your glass thickness first: 8–12mm for the GL05, 10–12mm for the GL07.

How many people can use one lock?

It depends on the model: up to 300 users on the TA-DL19 and TA-DL07, and up to 1,100 on the TA-GL05. Each product page lists the exact numbers.

Do I need Wi-Fi?

The lock works by Bluetooth on its own. You need Wi-Fi plus the Gateway G2 to manage it remotely and see live history. The TA-GL07 has Wi-Fi built in.
